What are cookies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. We also use localStorage — a browser storage mechanism similar to cookies but not transmitted with requests — for autosaving your designs locally.
Cookies we use
MyCanvas uses only strictly necessary cookies. We do not use any advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
mc_auth |
Strictly necessary | Keeps you signed in. An HttpOnly, Secure JWT token — cannot be read by JavaScript. Only sent over HTTPS. | 30 days, or until sign-out | MyCanvas |
| Cloudflare Turnstile cookies | Strictly necessary | Bot and spam protection on the SHARE feature. Cloudflare's widget sets a short-lived cookie to verify human interaction. No personal data is shared for advertising. | Session / short-lived | Cloudflare, Inc. |
| Cloudflare infrastructure | Strictly necessary | Cloudflare may set cookies related to security and traffic routing at the network level. | Session | Cloudflare, Inc. |
localStorage (not cookies)
The editor uses your browser's localStorage to autosave your current design every 1.5 seconds. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly use a cloud save feature. It is stored under the key mycanvas_project_v1. You can clear it at any time via your browser's developer tools or by clicking File → New Canvas.
Why no consent banner?
Under UK PECR (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations), consent is not required for cookies that are strictly necessary for a service you have requested. Since all cookies on MyCanvas fall into this category, we are not required to obtain your consent to set them. We do, however, inform you of their existence through this policy.
We have no advertising cookies, no analytics cookies (not even Google Analytics), and no social media tracking pixels. There is nothing to opt out of.
How to manage cookies
You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings:
- Chrome — Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox — Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari — Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge — Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Blocking the mc_auth cookie will sign you out and prevent cloud features from working. The core editor (without an account) works without any cookies.
